No — and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you the wrong product. Zip screens and wire-guide shades are sun, insect and comfort systems. They retract fully into their housing and should be stowed before severe weather. For storm protection you need rated shutters or impact glass.
Zip screen or wire guide — which do I need?
Zip screens seal the opening edge to edge in side channels — best for insect-free outdoor rooms. Wire guides leave airflow at the edges with a lighter, more open look — best for sun control on balconies and terraces. Your designer will show both at the consultation.
Can they be automated?
Yes — motorization is standard, and sun and wind sensors can run everything automatically: screens drop in afternoon heat and retract themselves when the wind picks up.
Will I still have a view?
Yes — solar mesh fabrics are chosen by openness factor, so you can cut glare and heat dramatically while keeping the view. Darker meshes actually preserve the view best.
Do they work for condos and balconies?
Often yes, subject to your association's rules — we're experienced with HOA and condo-board approvals across South Florida and can help with the paperwork.
